Sustainable Island Mauritius (SIM) is a project funded by the European Union in the framework of the SWITCH Africa Green program. The overall objective of SIM is to promote sustainable tourism in Mauritius by demonstrating and scaling up self-sustaining mechanisms for improving sustainability impacts along the value chain and improving awareness and market awareness of sustainable tourism products.
MariDeals partnered with the Mauritius Tourism Awards to host a competition that engaged numerous hotels in driving positive change through sustainability and carbon emission reduction in 2023.
-
Mauritius faced environmental strain due to rapid tourism growth, challenging the hospitality sector to balance expansion with ecological preservation.
-
Our solution focused on fostering greater eco-consciousness among businesses and positioning Mauritius as a leader in sustainable tourism. We introduced the "Eco-Friendly Certification" program, which encouraged hotels and SMEs to adopt sustainable practices.
This initiative was promoted through a competitive campaign with six distinct categories, designed to highlight and reward eco-friendly efforts. The campaign was strategically developed to educate stakeholders, engage local businesses, and attract responsible tourists. -
The campaign significantly advanced environmental stewardship within the Mauritian hospitality industry. By implementing the Eco-Friendly Certification program, we created a tangible benchmark for sustainability that businesses could strive for, leading to increased adoption of green practices. The initiative not only reduced the environmental impact of the tourism sector but also elevated Mauritius's reputation as an eco-conscious destination.
As a result, the campaign successfully attracted responsible tourists, encouraged local businesses to prioritize sustainability, and fostered a culture of environmental awareness throughout the region.
