Sustainable Island Mauritius (SIM) is a project funded by the European Union in the framework of the SWITCH Africa Green program. The overall objective of SIM is to promote sustainable tourism in Mauritius by demonstrating and scaling up self-sustaining mechanisms for improving sustainability impacts along the value chain and improving awareness and market awareness of sustainable tourism products.
MariDeals partnered with the Mauritius Tourism Awards to host a competition that engaged numerous hotels in driving positive change through sustainability and carbon emission reduction in 2023.
Challenge, Goal, and Execution
I contributed to the creative direction, ideation, shaping campaign identity, and video production.
The rapid growth of tourism in Mauritius presents environmental challenges to both the tourism sector and local communities. Balancing expansion with environmental preservation continues to be a fundamental challenge for the hospitality industry.
The goal was to address these issues, fostering greater eco-consciousness among businesses.
Introducing a more sustainable Mauritius.
An extensive campaign was launched, including actions such as introducing an "Eco-Friendly Certification" program for hotels and SME’s through a competition with six different categories. The campaign aimed to actively reduce the environmental impact of the hospitality industry, attract responsible tourists and locals, and position Mauritius as an eco-conscious destination.

Through the Sustainable Tourism Mauritius Awards, we identified and celebrated the most responsible and secure stakeholders in the tourism and hospitality industry, along with local SMEs, through six different categories:

Best Sustainable Tourist Accommodation
Best Sustainable Tour Operator
Best Sustainable Restaurant
Best Sustainable Boat
Best Sustainable Nature-Based Activity
These awards recognized genuine efforts to make positive changes. We commended businesses that benefited local communities, supported cultural diversity, and promoted biodiversity conservation while maintaining a viable and profitable business model.
